January 5th - Pontifical Institute Notre Dame of Jerusalem Center

The Notre Dame of Jerusalem Center joins the Catholic community of the Holy Land in warmly welcoming the newly appointed Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Giorgio Lingua. Archbishop Lingua has previously served as Nuncio to Iraq and Jordan, Cuba, and most recently Croatia (2019 – 2026). We offer our prayers for his mission and ministry, entrusted with the delicate and vital task of representing the Holy Father in this land so deeply marked by faith, history, and hope.
At the same time, we wish to express our sincere gratitude to Archbishop Adolfo Tito Yllana for his years of dedicated service as Apostolic Nuncio to Israel and Cyprus, and Apostolic Delegate to Jerusalem and Palestine. Throughout his tenure, Archbishop Yllana embodied the pastoral diplomacy of the Holy See, fostering dialogue, supporting local Churches, and encouraging peaceful coexistence among the diverse religious communities of the region.

For Notre Dame of Jerusalem Center, a Pontifical Institute entrusted to the care of the Legionaries of Christ, the relationship with the Apostolic Nunciature has always held particular significance. As a house belonging directly to the Holy See, Notre Dame seeks to serve the universal mission of the Church by welcoming pilgrims, offering a place of encounter and formation, and standing as a visible sign of the Church’s presence in the heart of Jerusalem.
Archbishop Yllana has always supported our mission here and also visited Notre Dame on numerous occasions, and we are deeply grateful for his pastoral closeness, his encouragement of our mission, and his unwavering support of initiatives aimed at promoting faith, dialogue, and unity. His presence at major celebrations and moments of prayer strengthened our sense of belonging to the universal Church.
As we welcome Archbishop Lingua, we look forward with hope and confidence to continuing this close and fruitful relationship. We renew our commitment to collaborate with the Holy See in its mission in the Holy Land, offering Notre Dame as a place of hospitality, encounter, and spiritual renewal for all who seek peace and truth.
May the Lord bless Archbishop Yllana for his fidelity to his priesthood and in the mission entrusted to him by the Church and may the Lord guide and sustain the new Nuncio in his service to the Church and to the peoples of this Holy Land.
