Step into one of the most powerful moments in the history of the Church. The Pentecost Room, located within the Notre Dame of Jerusalem Center, is a space where art, Scripture, and silence come together to invite reflection, prayer, and renewal.

This immersive experience is part of the Notre Dame Experience, a unique initiative designed to help visitors encounter the mystery of faith in a personal and meaningful way.

About the Pentecost Room

At the heart of the room is a panoramic 217 m² oil-on-canvas painting by Chilean artist Daniel Cariola — also painter of the famous Encounter in Magdala — depicting the descent of the Holy Spirit upon Mary and the Apostles, as described in Acts 1–2.

The painting spans across walls and ceiling, immersing visitors in a living depiction of Pentecost. Within it, 119 figures are portrayed: the Apostles, the Virgin Mary, and many of Jesus’ closest followers — Jairus and his daughter, Lazarus with his sisters Mary and Martha, Mary Magdalene, Mary of Jerusalem, and others who walked closely with the Lord.

Created as a place for prayer, contemplation, and encounter, the Pentecost Room invites pilgrims to rediscover the birth of the Church and its Jewish roots, connecting Pentecost with the Feast of Shavuot — the celebration of the giving of the Law at Sinai, now fulfilled in the outpouring of the Spirit.

This project also contributes to the preservation of Christian art in the Holy Land and fosters unity, dialogue, and peace between faiths. The room was solemnly blessed by the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem on June 7th, 2025, during Vespers of Pentecost, marking its official opening as a place of prayer and encounter for pilgrims from around the world.
