Notre Dame de Terre Sainte
Building Faith
in Peace
Notre Dame de Terre Sainte is a non-profit
association with international membership, founded in 2009 by Alexandre Joudé.
Currently co-headquartered in Rome and Paris, its purpose is to
* Promote cultural and inter-religious dialogue, notably through cultural and
academic exchanges
* Preserve ancient and modern sites sacred to
the Christian, Muslim and Jewish religion
* Support economically, morally and
spiritually, the local Christian community in the Holy Land
*
Invite people all over the world to experience the spiritual,
cultural and historical treasures of the Holy Land
Notre Dame
de Terre Sainte strongly supports and aims to fulfill the
commitment made by Pope Paul VI in his 1965 declaration
Nostra Aetate:
"One is the community of all peoples, one
their origin, for God made the whole human race to
live over the face of the earth.(1) One also is
their final goal, God. His providence, His manifestations of goodness,
His saving design extend to all men (…) . The
Church, therefore, exhorts her sons, that through dialogue and collaboration
with the followers of other religions, carried out with prudence
and love and in witness to the Christian faith and
life, they recognize, preserve and promote the good things, spiritual
and moral, as well as the socio-cultural values found among
these men. (...)"this sacred synod urges all (…) to work
sincerely for mutual understanding and to preserve as well as
to promote together for the benefit of all mankind social
justice and moral welfare, as well as peace and freedom."
Notre Dame de Terre Sainte is promoting projects in line
with its commitment to dialogue and peace. Among others, it
actively supports Notre Dame of Jerusalem Center on grounds of
their shared principles and beliefs.
Cultural and inter-religious dialogue is Notre
Dame de Terre Sainte´s core commitment. Deeper knowledge of the
three monotheistic religions and better mutual understanding is also a
central aim of Notre Dame of Jerusalem Center, considered by
the Vatican as "a privileged place of meeting and dialogue
among religions, cultures, and peoples" (John Paul II, Motu Proprio,
2004).
Travels and pilgrimages help deepen understanding of complex cultural,
religious and political contexts as those of the Middle East
region today.
Notre Dame de Terre Sainte is actively promoting
Notre Dame of Jerusalem Center whose purpose, among others, is
to "provide hospitality to pilgrims coming from all over the
world to visit the Holy Land" (John Paul II, Motu
Proprio, 2004).
The Christian community represents a religious minority in
Holy Land and more generally in the Middle East. Notre
Dame de Terre Sainte thus actively support projects and activities
in cooperation with the local Christian communities.
On the occasion of
its Annual Gala Dinner in Rome, Notre Dame de Terre
Sainte honors the top donor of the year with the
Notre Dame de Terre Sainte - Building Faith in Peace
medal.
